The three traps
- Wrong-network deposits. Free-on-Base only helps if the destination accepts Base USDC. An exchange that lists only Ethereum USDC will not credit a Base deposit. Always read the destination's deposit page first.
- Confusing the spread with the fee. Converting USD→USDC on Coinbase is 1:1 with no spread; other conversions (say ETH→USDC) carry trading fees before you ever withdraw. This page covers only the withdrawal leg.
- Old bridged tokens. What leaves Coinbase is native USDC. If the receiving app shows USDbC (Base) or USDC.e (Arbitrum), that is the older bridged variant — a different contract. Check addresses, not tickers, before swapping or sending onward.
