The fee, decomposed
TRON doesn't have a gas price. A TRC-20 transfer consumes two metered resources:
- Energy (~65,000 per transfer) — pays for running the USDT contract. Roughly doubles (~130,000) when the recipient has never held USDT, because a new storage slot must be created. Energy is the entire cost story.
- Bandwidth (~345 bytes) — pays for the transaction's size. The free daily allowance every account gets usually covers it; if not, the TRX burned for bandwidth is a rounding error next to energy.

The question has flipped. It used to be “TRON or expensive Ethereum?” Now it's “TRON or a two-cent L2?”:
